For over a decade, zombies have been all the rage.  They’re in movies, TV shows, and books.  In many modern zombie stories the trouble starts with a disease that wipes out the population and turns the corpses into mindless creatures that rise up and attack the healthy survivors.  It’s a horror story that pokes us in just the right places  –  our fear of death… our fear of contamination… our fear of being overwhelmed.  It’s a story about new life, except the life of a mindless, shuffling zombie isn’t really life at all.

Jesus promises us a return from the dead.  Not as mindless, ravenous, rotting creatures, but as glorified beings who are perfected in God’s power.  We look forward to our new life in Heaven, but eternal life is not the only promise Jesus made us.  While we live on this earth, we have a power that transcends human understanding.  Through the Holy Spirit, we have what Jesus called “abundant life.”  As Adam and Eve walked with God in the garden and had fellowship with Him, so have we had our relationship with God restored.  We may not see Him face to face, but we have unfettered access to Him through prayer and His Word.  The Holy Spirit works in us to reveal God’s truth and power through us.  Are you walking in the power of the Holy Spirit to understand God’s Word?  To apply it to your life?  To follow Him in obedience no matter the task?  As God’s child, this abundant life is yours in Christ Jesus.
