What does it mean to keep it “between the ditches?” It’s a phrase my dad used to use when he wanted me to stay out of trouble. In other words, don’t swerve too far to the left or to the right. In our post-modern era, the Church tends to do exactly that. Some rail against the legalism of the past and swerve too far to the left, ending up in the ditch of disobedience to biblical righteousness in the name of “love” for our neighbors. Others, responding in anger or fear toward the lost, swerve too far to the right and hitch the Lord’s wagon to politics and bitterness. How much better would it be if we let the Bible dictate our direction instead of trying to make its words fit our personal desires.
About Justin
I’m a husband, father, and pastor in Mississippi. Reading, studying, and communicating the truths of the Bible have always been my passion. From a young age I was convinced of two truths: 1) God is real; 2) The Bible is His Word for us. If both these premises are accurate, then what could possibly be more important than knowing our Creator and seeking our understanding and purpose for life in Him? It is the calling of my life to share biblical guidance for life’s journey with anyone who wants to follow Jesus.
